Six SOL Players Going to 2019 World Cup

An unprecedented six former and current Clay County Florida Sol Players will be going to the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France. These players include former Sol and youth player Morgan Brian who helped the U.S. win the 2015 World Cup and 18 year old Sade Adamolekun who is a current youth player at Clay County’s United Soccer Alliance Girls DA. The other players are Havana Solaun, Lauren Silver, and Ashleigh Shim who will represent Jamaica as well as Emily Sonnett who will represent the U.S. in her first world cup.

“It’s incredible that there will be 6 former players with ties to the our youth program and Florida Sol team going to the World Cup” said Luis Torres, coach of the Sol and Director of the Girls DA at Clay County. “I feel a great sense of pride and excitement for these young ladies who I’ve seen grow up and develop into some of the worlds best.” said Torres. What might be even more impressive is that Morgan Brian, and Havana Solaun and Sade all played for Torres as youth players before they played on the WPSL Sol team. “I think that having the WPSL Sol team as the top of our developmental pathway is invaluable. There have been 14 different professional players that have played on the Sol over the last 8 years which have helped inspire the younger players in our program to work hard to reach their goals. The personal contact with the younger players in our program has inspired an environment where they truly believe that greatness is possible here” said Torres.  

We are incredibly proud of these players and look forward to watching them play in the World Cup.
